Jonathan Has Approved My Assassination March 28 - Amaechi asks for help

  • Says president, PDP not keeping to peace accord
  • Rivers governor is a pathological liar, says Fani-Kayode

Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, on Wednesday said at an emergency news conference in Lagos that President Goodluck Jonathan has approved his assassination by security agents for this Saturday, March 28, when the presidential poll is due.

Amaechi, who had rushed down to Lagos following an alleged tip-off by concerned security agents, said the reality of the assassination came this time for the second term because it was meant to have been executed by February 14, the first date of the presidential election before the six weeks postponement.

According to him, the plan to kill him on March 28 was hatched by the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), who has asked for military cover whenever they invade his community in Ubima, Rivers State to assassinate him on the day of the presidential election.

According to Amaechi, 30 soldiers from Division 2 led by a Major from Idoma, Benue State have been assigned to carry out the assassination.

The governor, who reiterated that the plan was to be carried out initially on February 14, added that he was not bothered until the latest information from someone said to have been part of the meeting where the plan was hatched.

He further disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, General Minima, who hails from Opobo as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, has flooded the community with solders with a plan to deliver the place to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Even yesterday, (Tuesday), the Military had recce in my village. If the president wants me dead, I should let the public know before I am shot dead by the president and his people,” Amaechi declared, adding that, “Citizens are being killed every day. Even those indicted by the police over Okrika killing are still walking the streets free.”

Amaechi, however, added that he was asked to take caution from Thursday (today), or fly out of the country. But he claimed to have since rejected the advice, saying the task of effecting a change was a task to be done.

Also, while, addressing the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and High level Representative of the Secretary-General to Nigeria, Dr. Mohamed Ibu Chambas led other top UN diplomats and delegation on a courtesy visit to the governor in Port Harcourt yesterday, Amaechi accused President Jonathan and the PDP of breaching the Abuja peace accord.

He accused Mr. President and the PDP of inciting violence in the country.
The governor also accused the president’s wife, Mrs. Patience Jonathan of taking over control of the police in the state.

According to him, “Members of APC have been crying out loud to the country and the world. In Rivers State, the wife of the president, who is from Rivers State has taken over the control of the police force. On Tuesday night, the Commissioner of Police attempted to arrest a member of the state House of Assembly and the reason for doing that is to ensure that APC members don’t come out on election day.

“And as I speak to you now, the lawmaker has moved into Government House for protection. More so, we have over 400 APC members in police detention. The other day, I asked the police commissioner and he told me that those arrested were criminals and why should I ask him to release them. Do we only have criminals in APC?,” he queried.

Continuing the governor said: “In the same vein, on Tuesday, PDP hoodlums went to the house of the Commissioner of Power, Hon. Augustine Nwokocha with military uniforms and killed his relations, injured others and further burnt down the house of his personal assistant. All these attacks and impunity can measure that the elections can be free, but may not be fair.”

“The APC is not running election against PDP all over the states across the country. The APC is running election against the institutions of government. And they include; the police and the military. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah is from Rivers State. As I talk to you now, he has deployed special military to Opobo/Nkoro local government area where he comes from, and incidentally, the APC guber candidate, Dr. Peterside comes from Opobo. So, you virtually expect resistance and nobody is concerned about the plight of APC. The APC is threatening to go back to the International Criminal Court (ICC) where the United Nations will witness how President Jonathan and the PDP are using the police and the military to trigger violence,” Amaechi said.

Amaechi equally observed with concern a statement credited to his deputy, Mr. Tele Ikuru at a PDP function in Port Harcourt, saying, “even if it means for the presidency and PDP to spill blood to WIN the elections, they should go ahead,” describing the statement as malicious and capable of inciting violence.

Earlier, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and High level Representative of the Secretary-General to Nigeria, Dr. Mohamed Ibu Chambas, said the delegation was in Nigeria to sensitise and advise political parties and candidates for the election to ensure a level playing ground.

“We are focusing on the elections because of the concern of the international community. The focus globally is on Nigeria, especially on the elections. The presidential candidates, President Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari have signed a peace accord ahead of the elections. They have advised their followers to do the same process and INEC should also be allowed to conduct a free and fair elections. The UN has organised a workforce to assist INEC conduct credible elections in the country,” Chambas said.

However, the Director of Merida and Publicity of the Peoples democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPDPCO), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has described Amaechi’s allegations as a lie.

Fani-Kayode said: “This is another example of the madness that has affected the minds of the APC leaders. Amaechi is the worst of them. Not only is he deluded but he is also a pathological liar.

“The president has no intention of killing him (Amaechi) and neither does he wish him dead. We would rather defeat him and his presidential candidate at the polls on Saturday and ensure that he is alive to witness it rather than kill him.

“The PDP are not a party of murderers and neither do they indulge in violence.”
