Representatives, on Sunday, disclosed that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)  shortpaid the Federal Government to the tune of N320.654 billion in its dealings on oil and gas revenues, paying N1.516 trillion to the Federation Account instead of N1.837 trillion. The chairman, House Committee on Finance, Honourable  Abdulmumin Jibrin, who revealed this on Sunday in a statement tagged:  “Petroleum Minister/NNPC: A shady regime of oil and gas management,” said the NNPC must come clean on its operations and remittances to the Federation Account.

Many students have been killed after suspected members of the Boko Haram sect last night, attacked a tertiary institution in Yobe state. The insurgents moved into the College of Agriculture, Gujba, 50 Km south of Damaturu, the state capital and killed several students. A staff of the school told Channels Television that several dead bodies are still being recovered from bushes, hostels and classes in and around the school. The source also revealed that surviving students are at the moment making efforts to reunite with their families in fear of further attacks by the insurgents. Nigeria has been identified by travel and hospitality experts as the fastest growing air travel market in Africa recording 1.5 million visitors last year. Governor Babatunde Fashola of the western Nigerian state of Lagos Thursday apologised to the people of the South-East over the sending home of some destitute of Igbo extraction from Lagos to Anambra. The governor tendered his apology at a ceremony to mark the silver jubilee anniversary of Aka Ikenga, an Igbo-social group at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos. He said that he was discomfited with the controversy the deportation generated, but argued that the deportation was for “re-integration”. Fashola said that those who had exaggerated the issue in the media were merely provoking ethnic and political sentiments, insisting that the State Government had built long friendships with Igbos. The deportation had attracted scathing criticisms from various quarters, with Gov. Tired of staying at home, hundreds of Bayero University, BUK, students in Kano, northwest Nigeria, on Thursday, staged a peaceful protest, and gave the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, one week to resolve their issues or face the wrath of Nigerian students. The students also called on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to increase the annual budget for education to 26 per cent, insisting that doing so will solve the myriad long-term challenges facing Nigerian universities. According to them, ASUU would not be asking for too much if they insist on the full implementation of the 2009 ASUU/FG Agreement, which to their views, will bring about the required face-lift needed in the universities across the country.

A Nigerian high Court in Benin-City, capital of the southern state of Edo, has awarded Governor Adams Oshiomhole N25m, about 100,000 pounds sterling, as damages in a libel suit instituted against Docklands Communication and Loye Amzat, publishers and Editor of the News of the People Magazine. Oshiomhole had dragged the celebrity weekly magazine to court demanding for N250m as damages over a report with the headline, ‘Oshiomhole’s sex power exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife’’. While testifying in the suit No. B/556/2011, Governor Oshiomhole told the Court that the said publication libeled his person and that the defendant, among other things falsely wrote that he bought the said girl a jeep as well as interfering in the academic activities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on behalf of the girl. A 30-year old teacher, Augustine Akpan, who allegedly fondled the breasts of his pupil, an 11-year old girl (names withheld), has been remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Senior Magistrate’s Court sitting at Abule Egba, Lagos, western Nigeria. The police arraigned Akpan before the court on a two-count charge of indecent assault and fondling the breasts of his pupil. The police prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, told the court that the offence Akpan allegedly committed is contrary to and punishable under sections 135 and 261 (2) of the criminal law, volume 44, of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The management of Christ Gospel Apostolic Church located at Egbeda where a 2-year old baby girl was allegedly buried alive have reacted to the report published. They refuted the claims by the residents that the baby that was buried in their church was buried alive. They said the baby had died before she was buried, adding that it was the child of a member of the church. Officials of the church told correspondents this morning that they only invited the reporter to see for himself that the church was not closed down. “You can see that the church was not closed despite the problem with the police,” a top member of the church said.

A middle aged man was this morning crushed to death by a moving train at Bolade, Oshodi, beside The Arena Market, Lagos, western Nigeria. An eyewitness informed correspondents that the yet to be identified man was walking in company of his friends when the train crushed him.

The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have shut a church where a two-year old baby girl was allegedly buried alive at Egbeda. Already, the police at Idimu Division have exhumed the body of the victim for autopsy and arrested the pastor of the church identified as Dare Ogunloye. Sources told correspondents that the DPO, Mike Ochuko, ordered his men to exhume the corpse from the church premises for autopsy.. The incident happened at Christ Gospel Apostolic Church located at Destiny Avenue, Egbeda, close to the Palace of the traditional ruler of  Egbeda kingdom, Oba Samson Balogun. Following the incident, the monarch  has called on the Lagos State Government to close down the church permenantly if the allegation was true.

A mild drama played out in Orlu, ImoState, when a commercial motorcyclist, a father of two (names withheld), was caught pants down making love to a married woman in a lonely bush. While the 45-year-old housewife was making a case of rape against the randy motorcyclist, the 30-year-old man insisted that the woman was his concubine. Giving account of what transpired to the police, the woman said she engaged the motorcyclist at Orlu to take her to her matrimonial home at Obibi-Ochasi.
